What if we focus our attention on the things we choose to do each day? Instead of passively waiting for someone else to put a stop to the injustices we notice around us or blaming external forces for our own state of upset, we get to actively work to create the world we desire! True? or True?
I grew up working in a Residential Facility for individuals with cognitive, social, emotional, or physical challenges that came into play prior to the age of 21. We discovered that as a population who doesn’t contribute funding to the financial pot of the government, our resources were quite limited.
So what would be the most efficient and productive mindset we could have embraced?
Some people took the route of Complaining and feeling abused by the system. And as you can imagine, our resources never improved in any way.
However, one of our Unit Supervisors took matters into his own hands and each year, on the front lawn of the unit we called Regamy B, he asked one of the staff who made magnificent Spaghetti to bring in a huge pot of it. We put the word out in the weeks before the event and people throughout the facility came over and bought their lunch. Then, all the rest of us brought in items from home and we had a huge garage sale and created our own stash of cash to afford fun items and activities for our clients.
